02/08/2008 - Gluing on the
baffle to the fuel tank
A big
day today which involved sealing and riveting the rear baffle onto
the fuel tank. The plan call for a bead of sealant just
above the river holes placed on the skin. I packed a large
syringe and squeezed a bead all the way along both sets of holes.
The baffle was then pushed on and it does exactly as stated in the
plan a good sea.
The fuel tank brackets are put on first with blind rivets and a
good glob of sealant. I had a few break off prematurely
using my 'close quarter' puller (which is brill by the way)
however if you don't get the puller completely straight that's
when they brake half way down the stem rather than at the rivet.
I checked the web sites and forums and I was surprised at how
common this is. I was confident they were pulled so I cut
the stems off.
Next
up was riveting all the baffle to skin rivets and there are a lot
and I got into a nice mess. Next stop leak testing :-(
